Sheriff Bob Jonsen’s Roll Call Listening Campaign Expands Nationwide Through Partnerships with CSSA, MCSA, and NuCalm Public Safety Division
April 13, 2026
A groundbreaking law enforcement wellness initiative created by Sheriff Bob Jonsen, Sheriff of Santa Clara County, California, is expanding nationwide through strategic partnerships with the California State Sheriffs’ Association (CSSA), the Major County Sheriffs of America (MCSA), and NuCalm Public Safety Division.
Known as the Roll Call Listening Campaign, the initiative uses music, guided discussion, and structured reflection to address some of the most difficult and often unspoken challenges facing law enforcement professionals today. Developed from Sheriff Jonsen’s original album, The Cost, the campaign creates opportunities for meaningful conversations around officer wellness, suicide, sleep deprivation, alcohol use, hypervigilance, family relationships, cumulative trauma, retirement, and identity.
Built specifically for the realities of law enforcement culture, the Roll Call Listening Campaign consists of eight songs, eight facilitated briefings, and eight weeks of guided conversations designed to meet officers where they are. The campaign provides supervisors with structured discussion guides, conversation prompts, crisis resources, and practical tools that encourage honest dialogue, reflection, and peer support while creating opportunities for meaningful conversations that might not otherwise occur.
The campaign was developed around a simple but powerful premise: stories and music can often reach people in ways that traditional wellness programs cannot. Rather than relying solely on presentations, policies, or awareness campaigns, the Roll Call Listening Campaign uses authentic storytelling and lived experience to create space for reflection, conversation, and connection.
Sheriff Bob Jonsen, who serves as Sheriff of Santa Clara County and has become a leading voice in the national conversation around law enforcement wellness and resilience, believes meaningful change begins with creating opportunities for honest conversation and reflection within the profession.
“This campaign started as a simple idea: use music, guided reflection, and honest conversation to create space for the issues our profession often struggles to discuss,” said Jonsen. “For too long, many of these conversations have remained in the shadows. By creating opportunities for leaders and frontline personnel to engage with these topics together, we can build healthier teams, stronger organizations, and better support the people who serve our communities every day.”
The campaign’s expansion is supported by CSSA, MCSA, and NuCalm Public Safety Division, organizations that share a commitment to improving the health, wellness, and long-term performance of public safety professionals. Together, these organizations are helping make the Roll Call Listening Campaign available to agencies across the country.
Through the support of CSSA, MCSA, and NuCalm Public Safety Division, agencies and individual personnel can participate in the Roll Call Listening Campaign at no cost. In addition, participants receive complimentary access to NSRT™ (Nervous System Regulation Training) powered by NuCalm for the duration of the campaign, giving officers and leaders access to science-based tools designed to improve sleep, accelerate recovery, regulate stress, and enhance performance. The goal is simple: remove barriers to participation and make meaningful wellness resources available to every agency that wants to engage.
The initiative also reflects a growing recognition that some of the profession’s most pressing challenges cannot be solved through awareness alone. Topics such as officer suicide, sleep deprivation, alcohol misuse, cumulative trauma, hypervigilance, family strain, and retirement identity require new approaches that engage officers in meaningful and authentic ways.
“What Sheriff Jonsen has created is something our profession has needed for a very long time,” said Ryan Layne, National Director of NuCalm’s Public Safety Division and Founder of NSRT™. “The Roll Call Listening Campaign creates a simple, approachable way to open conversations that many officers have never felt comfortable having. Through music, storytelling, and guided discussion, it helps leaders address some of the profession’s most difficult challenges while creating opportunities for connection, reflection, and growth. We are honored to partner with Sheriff Jonsen, CSSA, and MCSA to help bring this initiative to agencies across the country.”
The Roll Call Listening Campaign also integrates NSRT™ (Nervous System Regulation Training), a science-based framework developed specifically for public safety professionals. Through educational resources and neuroscience-based tools, participating agencies gain access to practical strategies that help personnel improve sleep, accelerate recovery, regulate stress, and enhance performance.
The campaign reflects a growing recognition throughout public safety that wellness is not simply an individual responsibility but a leadership priority. Organizations that invest in recovery, sleep, stress regulation, and healthy workplace culture are better positioned to support their personnel, strengthen retention, improve decision-making, and sustain long-term organizational effectiveness.
As the Roll Call Listening Campaign expands nationwide, participating organizations remain committed to advancing innovative, evidence-informed approaches that help public safety professionals thrive both personally and professionally.
